Tools and Utilities
For to enhance the usability of OS-9/68k, Elsoft AG offers the following tools:
ZSH Advanced Shell for OS-9/68k
ZSH has been designed to improve the user interface of OS-9 and therefore making work
with OS-9 more comfortable and also more efficient. The following summarizes the numerous
features of ZSH:
- Powerful command line editor: Screen oriented editing including insert/overwrite modes,
delete character, word or entire line, cursor movement etc.
- Command line history: The 19 most recently typed command lines will be stored by ZSH and
can be recalled, edited and re-executed with only a few keystrokes.
- Wildcard menu: Instead of entering filenames manually, just enter @ (called the menu
wildcard) and ZSH displays a screen oriented menu from which you can select the desired
files quickly.
- Enhanced prompt: The prompt can be programmed to show useful information such as the
working directory path or the current date and time.
- User defined abbreviations for commands and pathlists: Command names, entire command
lines or parts of them as well as frequently used pathlists can be stored with a name in
memory (called a symbol). Afterwards, these names can be used on the command line instead
of entering the associated texts.
- Built-in batch control language: ZSH offers a wide range of commands that allow you to
write real programs (called shell programs), as well as a powerful expression evaluator
for numeric and sting expressions. The commands include flow control statements such as
GOTO and GOSUB, conditional execution with IF...THEN as well as file handling and screen
oriented input/output. These shell programs are even ROMable!
- Screen oriented Menus: Using the MENU command in a shell program you may generate screen
oriented menus at almost no expense. With only a few lines of text, complicated sequences
of commands can be made available in a menu.
