Common nuisances are lack of an operating system, the need to access hardware directly without the help of device drivers, tight limits in RAM and/or ROM etc. Additionally, tight schedules and budgets are common nowadays. According to the last survey, there are at least 150 operating systems available that offer different levels of realtime capabilities.
